Cedar House is a magnificent Victorian residence, gracefully set within the serene and highly sought-after conservation area of Rose Hill. Built in the 1850s, the area originally featured a series of grand Italianate and Victorian villas encircling an oval once known as The Paddock, marked by a striking brick archway that still defines the entrance. Just moments from the high street, this historic enclave remains one of the Surrey Hills’ most private and captivating residential settings.

Working closely with the owners’ vision, we set out to transform Cedar House into a modern family home while preserving its period grandeur. Over a meticulous two-year programme, the house and gardens were fully modernised to the highest standards, retaining the property’s distinctive Victorian character—from ornate fireplaces and intricate ceiling mouldings to the finest period details throughout.

We sourced exquisite antique mirrors and furniture from reclamation yards and markets across the UK and France, seamlessly blending them with contemporary pieces, including lighting and beds, sourced through our extensive network of European interior suppliers.

The result is a harmonious balance of luxury and practicality, designed for a bustling family of six, complete with dogs, cats, and an ever-changing roster of visitors. Key enhancements include a stunning orangery kitchen, a refined third-story attic conversion, a self-contained exterior granny annex, and a comprehensive reimagining of the entrance, driveway, and gardens. Following the first year, the family’s return affirmed the careful balance achieved between everyday living and ongoing transformation.
